Homemade Lotion

I ran out of lotion over the weekend and I can’t go very long without it so a little free time this morning is perfect. Making your own means you know exactly what you are putting on your skin and you are the only animal it’s being tested on. If you have sensitive skin, always test a small area first before slathering it all over! Homemade lotion is easy to make and you don’t need much in the way of equipment. If you have a double boiler – great! If not, put a porcelain bowl on a pot of boiling water (& always be careful of the steam!).

Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces blended oils (I use 1/2 oz each of sweet almond, apricot kernel & sesame oils)
1 1/2 ounces coconut oil
1/2 oz beeswax beads
3 ounces distilled water
1 tsp vitamin C powder
1/4 tsp vitamin A powder
1 tbsp wheat germ oil
25-30 drops essential oil (your favorite scent)

Melt all of the oils and beeswax beads in the double boiler or bowl. When everything is completely melted, pour into a mixing bowl with the distilled water.
I use a hand mixer to blend all of the ingredients until it’s creamy.
Add preservatives and essential oils and blend again for just a few seconds, until everything is mixed well.
I add Sweet Orange and Bergamot oils until the lotion smells just how I want. Remember, this is body lotion so it does not need to smell strong, you will be using it all over.
I put my lotion into a clean, used body butter container.
