Homemade Laundry Detergent

I make our laundry detergent and you can too! Here’s how:
Grate one bar of Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap (I use Dr. Beonner’s b/c of the variety of scents but any bar of Castile soap will do). Use the smallest holes on your cheese grater and grate the soap into your chosen container. (I’m using an old Oxi Clean container).
Mix in 1 cup of Borax, 1 cup of Arm & Hammer washing soda, and 1 cup of an oxygen cleaner.
Using the oxygen cleaner scoop, add the detergent to your laundry, using the markings on the scoop according to the size of your load of laundry. So easy!

Arm & Hammer washing soda can be tricky to find, I usually get it at Ace Hardware or online. Borax and oxygen cleaners are available in the cleaning detergent section of most supermarkets. Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap is available at many supermarkets and at Target. Everything is fairly cheap, costing under $5 per ingredient and you can make many batches of laundry detergent with the Borax, washing soda and oxygen cleaner. The soap is the only thing you’ll use up per batch so I like to pick up 4 or 5 at a time. You can also make a double batch this way and mix scents!

This is a gentle laundry detergent, it shouldn’t bother even sensitive skin. It is more gentle than most store bought detergents.
